I think it's very valuable for
that.
What's your Twitter name?

Find someone people locally with similar interests as you. Then hop in the
conversation or start your own.
If you're trying to sell something or you are being pushy, you'll get
ignored.

Think of it as a cocktail party.

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

Conversations? What conversatations? In my experience people cannot be bothered to answer other people's twitter messages to them. They're too busy telling everyone about how they're on the 'bus, or what they had for dinner. I'm sick of commenting on someone's twitter only to be ignored and realise they probably didn't bother to read my comment in the first place. I hate twitter.

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

I truly do NOT care for twitter. I could understand how it'd be beneficial for some businesses to have to make more money, but I just think it's ridiculous for anything else. Whatever happened to the good old days of actually talking to people face-to-face and forming friendships that way? It seems like everything has to be on the internet which, well, would be considered indirect socializing.

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

i also hate twitter

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

Yes I totaly agree ...there is to much noise on twitter....i blogged about the same thing athttp://warriormill.com/20...

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

Twitter is shit!

Join the revolution at

www.shitter.it

Be a shit not a twit!!

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

I've got a couple of presentations on this site about using Twitter.
Click my SPEAKING section to check them out.

There is much value in Twitter.

Cheers

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

I don't know if I buy this whole Twitter phenomenon. Those kinds of things are part of growing up in a web 2.0 world. In that world, I've always seen Twitter as a "social comms play" not a "communications utility" because when you have a utility, you have pipes that work all the time. And if there's a clogged drain, there's a team fixing the problem and sometimes digging up a place to lay another pipe.

Twitter appeals most to people who have never sat next to a green screen on USENET. Twitter provides the greatest invigorating punch to people who have never joined a discussion board. If you haven't bonded to a group powered by a LISTSERV, then Twitter must seem to be the bee's knees. In all those other places, reliability and accountability have been paramount. I don't feel the same community concern on the part of Twitter's developers or funding partners.

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

Hey, it is open source. The community there reminds me of the early days at Twitter, and I can even put my own version on my own server so I'm in control of my own darn uptime. They're still working out kinks, but I'm extremely impressed. An open source service also won't ban you (and if a bug gets in that does - someone can fix it!). Best part: Iv'e seen Identi.ca's own Evan respond to multiple blog posts mentioning the service in under an hour. That's responsiveness.

Re: 5 reasons why I hate Twitter

Awww sweet - thanks Dave.
