  • Galaxy4
  • Galaxy 4, eh? I don't think I heard about that one. I did hear a story recently that is startling. It seems the CIA purchased hundreds of knock off Cisco routers from a vendor in China on Ebay.

It was discovered, but the trouble is that it's next to impossible to figure out which ones are fake and which are real without dismantling the systems. What systems you ask?

U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center, U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, U.S. Air Base at Spangdahelm, Germany, the Bonneville Power Administration, General Services Administration, and the defense contractor Raytheon, which makes key missile and weapons systems.

This could be one of two scenarios:
    1) a vendor in China is selling fakes to make a profit.
    2) they may be using the equipment to penetrate U.S. government and private sector computer networks.

I'll let you use your imagination on the possible effects of 2). Sweet dreams.

  • Boy, Dave, I wish I had a transcript of this. On Plurk I told folks it felt a bit like having laryngitis at a party. You can hear everyone, but you can't join the conversation. I was trying to explain this to a child psychiatrist who actually doesn't use email. For him, the analogy that worked was "What if they took away your phone? Only yours - everyone else can still do what they need, but *you* are not allowed to have or use a phone?" That got him. "Wow, that would be tough," he said, shaking his head.

    Good job.

BTW, Jason flushed the cache on our accounts - it ought to be better now. Not perfect - I can't DM for example, but better. Wishing you all the best.
  • Thanks for the update and props on my Utterz. I'm not sure how I can get a
transcript from the utter, sorry I'm not much help, eh? :-)

Keep in touch and let me know how things are going.

    Cheers,
    Dave
  • Hi Dave.

I wish we had met at Gnomedex, as I would like to discuss with you some tools I am building to make twitter utter in context to listening better.

Please try this and give me your feedback.

    Thanks
