You
don't trust me Hans? (kidding!).

Thanks.

Re: Read this before you register anywhere

Hi Dave,

I use 1Password for some insane password remembering. Also, I have been stopped by the application to accidentally use my password on fishing sites.

As far as security answers go, I was always wondering about those questions. Shouldn't it be fairly easy for a criminal to find out what my Dad's middle name is? Or my first pets name (by the way, I never had any pets, but I still have an answer :-) ).

I have to check all my personal data again. Facebook just lets you change your DOB. Whenever I do list the "wrong" answers I collect all the answers in 1Password, because I would never be able to remember everything.

Oh, I also use lots of fake emails (guerilla mail) and emails that I set up specifically for junk (and registering). Every now and then I abandon them, so that the spammers cannot actually get info this way either.

I wonder though, how easy is it that 1Password can be compromised? I'm not sure if I'm specifically safe or unsafe. To this day I have not had any issues (I bet, just because I'm posting this here I will get in trouble now :-) ).

Cheers, Hans

Re: Read this before you register anywhere

It's also a good reason to ignore the "Stripper Name" memes that float through.

WHAT IS YOUR LUMBERJACK NAME?

1) Your first name is the name of your first best friend.
2) Your last name is the name of your first pet.
3) Your nickname is your bank account number, followed by the last four digits of your social and the security digits on your credit card.

SEND TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, SO WE CAN HARVEST EMAIL ADDRESSES!

Re: Read this before you register anywhere

Still a good policy for you... :-) Thanks young brother from a similar
mother.

D

Re: Read this before you register anywhere

Thanks Dave..
Good thinking.

I guess honesty isn't the best policy after all..

Mike

Re: Read this before you register anywhere

Thanks Steph:
Are you doing any other interesting things to protect yourself online?
Anything you'd suggest others to try?

Thanks.

Re: Read this before you register anywhere

Dave,

This is great advice. I've been doing this for years. I haven't gotten any early (or late) birthday wishes because of it... but then I don't want even my e-birthday posted.
